Cultural Week (Week ending 9.2.24)

This week we have tried foods from different countries.

We tried fruit from our story Handa’s Surprise. We explored the fruit, felt the textures and smelt them before tasting.

After tasting the fruit we voted for our favourite. We created a human bar chart.

We have celebrated Chinese New Year. This year is the year of the Dragon! We enjoyed playing instruments to a Chinese New Year song and performing a dance with the colourful ribbons.

We tried some Chinese food, including noodles, rice, prawn crackers and spring rolls. The noodles were a big hit!

We dressed in traditional clothing and talked about different traditions. Red is a lucky colour and is often worn at Chinese New Year. We learnt that lucky red envelopes are put under pillows containing money as part of the celebration.

We wrote Happy New Year cards to our friends and shared stories and information books about Chinese New Year. We enjoyed drawing Chinese dragons on the easel with our friends.

We created a Chinese Dragon head. We all helped with drawing and painting. We used our head to do a dragon dance.

And last but not least congratulations to our 10 book readers this week 🙂 we love how many of you have been sharing books at home.
